Business briefs: Tesco | Wood Group | Standard Life
THE latest updates from the world of business as Tesco’s Andrew Yaxley prepares for a new management role and Gerry Grimstone, current chairman of Standard Life, takes over as chairman of The City UK trade body.
Tesco turnaround boss moved out
TESCO has moved one of the senior executives tasked with delivering the firm’s £1 billion turnaround plan in its home market.
The group said yesterday that UK fresh food commercial director Andrew Yaxley would leave the post he has held for over two years to prepare for a new management role.
Yaxley’s duties will be taken over by John Scouler, who is already the UK commercial director responsible for grocery, household goods, beers, wines, spirits, tobacco and petrol, Tesco added.
Integrity is key to Glasgow move
ENERGY services outfit Wood Group has established a presence in Glasgow for its “integrity management” arm.
The Aberdeen-based firm said yesterday that it was moving into renewables consultancy and sister company SgurrEnergy’s Bath Street offices.
Stephen Peet, regional operations director, said: “Establishing a base in Glasgow, our fourth in the UK, continues the expansion of our business. Having an office in central Scotland means WGIM will have greater flexibility in how we serve our clients’ needs.”
Grimstone becomes head of The City UK
STANDARD Life chairman Gerry Grimstone will tonight take over as chairman of The City UK, a trade body that represents financial and professional services firms.
Grimstone will use his speech at the organisation’s annual dinner at the Mansion House in London to call for financial services firms to focus on “serving” the public.
“I sometimes think that we forget ‘services’ are all about the desire to serve,” Grimstone will say. “At some point we lost that desire to serve and that needs to be brought back into focus.”
