Scottish firm BTO Solicitors has lured away a five-strong family law team from rival Lindsays.
Associates John Fotheringham, Marjory Blair, Jenny Maciver and paralegal Ruth Turley all joined BTO, formerly known as Brechin Tindal Oatts, this month. Team leader Lesley Gordon is set to join in a few weeks.
All are based in the firm’s Edinburgh office, with the exception of Blair, who works from BTO’s Glasgow office.
Partner Cath Karlin, a founder member of the collaborative movement in Scotland who helped set up BTO’s family law team, said: “These hires significantly strengthen our family law offering, and I am delighted to welcome John, Marjory, Jenny and Ruth to the team. We are seeing an increasing demand for family law services, particularly high value and complex cases, and the expansion of our team will enhance and diversify our offering to clients.”
BTO has offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh and employs 35 partners, a further 65 solicitors, and total personnel of 197.
Last year Lindsays, which has offices in Arbroath, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jedburgh and North Berwick, merged with MacLachlan & MacKenzie and Shield & Kyd, creating a firm with 29 partners and more than 200 staff. Last week, Lindsays said Karen Jack had been promoted to the role of senior associate within the family team.
