Law firm Anderson Strathern has reported an “excellent” first half with turnover up by 8 per cent, aided by key client wins.

Interim figures released by the practice, which is headquartered in Edinburgh and has some 50 partners and 250 staff, show that on a like-for-like basis, revenues rose to £10.5 million in the six-month period. Profits per partner were up by 13 per cent. The firm, which also has offices in Glasgow and Haddington, said it had attracted some “significant” client wins across the commercial and public sectors.

Those wins include Edinburgh-based Apex Hotels, which selected Anderson Strathern through a competitive tender exercise.

Scottish Water, meanwhile, has appointed the firm to its legal panel following another competitive tender. It will undertake litigation and commercial property work for the water utility.

A further client win saw Midlothian Council appoint Anderson to two separate areas of external legal services.

The firm said it had also continued with its strategy of growing its business through key lateral hires, announcing the appointment of Paul Brown from DWF as a partner in its Glasgow employment team and Mark Cowie, formerly head of construction and engineering at McClure Naismith, as a projects partner, also based in Glasgow. Murray McCall, Anderson Strathern’s managing partner, said: “The first six months of our financial year have been excellent for us and coincide with some great client wins.”

He said the firm would continue to seek lateral hire opportunities “that are increasingly presenting themselves to us on the back of industry mergers”.

The firm reported revenues of £21.5m in the previous full year.
