Mailway Scotland creates 40 openings
A NEW company formed to supply packaging – predominantly to the whisky industry – is to create at least 40 jobs in Hillington, near Glasgow.
In a joint venture, Hillington-based Benchmark Promotional Support Services has teamed up with Yorkshire-based Mailway Packaging Solutions to create Mailway Scotland.
The new company will offer general contract packing services, including steam shrink sleeving, premium gift set management and whisky tub making and filling.
Mailway said yesterday it had been supplying Scotland-based companies from its headquarters for more than ten years – and wanted to expand its presence in the Scottish market with a permanent base. It also plans to extend its services to include food, beauty care and fine fragrance packing.
Russell Cohen, managing director of Benchmark, said: "The new partnership with Mailway will bring our contract packing business to another level. Working together with Mailway we can build on our longstanding client relationships and implement tried and tested systems to further enhance performance."
Stewart Clough, sales director of Mailway Packaging Solutions and a director of the new company, said: "As part of our strategic plan to grow the business, and in light of rising cost and environmental pressures, it became apparent that a more local contract packing operation for this element of our business made perfect sense."
Scottish Enterprise is to support the venture, which is due to be launched early next year.
Maggie McGinlay, Scottish Enterprise director of food and drink, added: "The new Mailway Scotland facility is an exciting development, one which will bring new and innovative packaging technologies to the drinks sector in Scotland."
