Juan Beckmann in shares move for Diageo
Juan Beckmann could become the biggest shareholder in drinks group Diageo under a proposal to sell his Jose Cuervo tequila business in return for shares.
Analysts have said that Diageo is best-placed to buy Jose Cuervo, the world's best-selling tequila, if the Beckmann family decides to sell the brand, which could fetch more than 1 billion.
A Sunday newspaper report said the two sides had held a series of discussions about a sale and that the Beckmanns wanted shares in the UK group - maker of Johnnie Walker - rather than cash.
