Cathay contract for Rolls-Royce

ROLLS-Royce has won a major aero engine contract with Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific.

Under the deal announced at the Farnborough air show, Rolls-Royce will supply its Trent XWB engines to power ten of Cathay Pacific’s Airbus 350-1000 aircraft.

Cathay said it was also converting 16 orders it already has for the Airbus A350-900 aircraft to A350-1000s which will use the same engine. The engine is the fastest-selling ever of the Trent family with more than 1,100 sold.

Earlier this week Rolls-Royce announced a £118 million order from the US army. The contract is to service M250 engines, which power the US army’s fleet of Kiowa Warrior scout helicopters. The contract begins in July 2012 for a year, and the US army has options to extend the contract for four additional years.
