BAE wins £2.5bn jet contract from Omani air force

Defence contractor BAE Systems has won a £2.5 billion contract to supply 20 jets to the Sultanate of Oman.

The group said it will supply 12 Typhoon and eight Hawk trainer jets for the Royal Air Force of Oman, with delivery expected to begin in 2017.

BAE will also provide in-service support for the jets, adding: “This agreement builds on a long history of close co-operation between BAE Systems and the Omani armed forces.”

In May, the group secured a £1.6bn contract to supply 22 UK-built Hawks and 55 Swiss-built 55 Pilatus PC-21 aircraft to Saudi Arabia, safeguarding more than 200 jobs at its Brough factory in north Yorkshire.
