Horlick starts investor group
Nicola Horlick, the City financier who clashed with Lord Smith of Kelvin and Deutsche Bank in the 1990s, has launched a company to help wealthy individuals invest in small businesses.
Horlick was reinstated as managing director of Deutsche Bank’s UK unit – Morgan Grenfell Asset Management, where the then Sir Robert Smith was chief executive – in 1997, having been suspended for allegedly plotting to move her team to a rival fund manager.
Her latest venture, Rockpool Investments, has been set up with former 3i executives Gary Robins and Matt Taylor. Rockpool will use the UK government’s enterprise investment scheme to help high net-worth individuals invest at least £25,000 each in businesses looking for £2 million to £10m of equity.
