HMV puts focus on in-store cinemas
MUSIC and entertainment chain HMV is planning to expand beyond its high street operations by entering the cinema market.
The firm has launched a partnership with Curzon Artificial Eye that will see it open a pilot "arthouse" cinema above its store in Wimbledon, London.
It said that if the pilot was a success, it could roll out the hmvcurzon cinemas across a series of its larger stores.
The move is part of HMV's attempts to diversify away from the troubled CD market. Earlier this year it forged a partnership with Mama Group, which includes the HMV Picture House in Edinburgh.
