HeroTSC reveals job numbers up by 1,500

Scotland's largest call centre company, HeroTSC, has taken on some 1,500 staff in the past 18 months, it emerged yesterday.

The Falkirk-headquartered firm, which announced a new contract with energy provider E.on, said an expansion of its operations has seen employee numbers rise from 2,000 to more than 3,500 in the past year-and-a-half.

HeroTSC, a wholly-owned but independently-run subsidiary of Indian manufacturing and engineering giant Hero Group, has call centres in Aviemore, Dunoon, Greenock, Kilmarnock and Rothesay, as well as at its Falkirk HQ.

It also has operations in England and one in India, managed from Scotland.

The firm said that its payroll north of the Border has increasedfrom about 1,500 to 2,300 in the period.

Major contracts include work for broadcaster Sky and a six-year "strategic" partnership with Vodafone, and the firm has a turnover of about 60 million.

It said the E.on contract would initially see 120 employees joining the company's operation in Warrington, which became part of its network last year when 500 Vodafone staff transferred over.

Chief executive David Turner said the contract win not only created jobs, it made a "significant impact" on the company's turnover and showed that HeroTSC's business strategy of offering a complete customer contact service was succeeding.

"Our strategy of developing complex customer contact solutions rather than simply answering calls on (clients'] behalf is starting to pay dividends," he said.

"By getting to know our customers - and the specific needs of their clients - we have demonstrated an ability to bring value across all aspects of their business."
