Help for toiling businesses
A NEW fund has been launched that will try to help struggling firms in the Lothians that have been hit by the credit crunch.
The 1.5 million fund has been set up by DSL Business Finance, which has previously given 5m of loans to more than 500 firms in Glasgow and west central Scotland in the last 15 years.
It will help small and start-up firms in Edinburgh and the Lothians that are unable to get cash from the bank by allowing them to apply for loans of up to 50,000.
Eunice Lancaster, general manger of DSL, said the company's previous work has helped to create 86 full-time jobs and up to 179 full-time equivalent jobs in west central Scotland.
She said: "Many Edinburgh firms may be struggling due to the global credit crunch and could go to the wall unless they get investment quickly."
