ROYAL Bank of Scotland (RBS) has appointed Les Matheson as temporary head of its branch network in place of Ross McEwan, who steps up to the role of group chief executive next month.
Matheson, who becomes interim chief executive of UK retail banking, is currently managing director for products and marketing, UK retail.
The bank said it is conducting “an extensive internal and external search” for a successor to McEwan, who joined RBS last summer.
Matheson takes up his new position on 16 September.
He has more than 17 years’ experience in financial services, having worked for several banks, including Citibank, in locations ranging from Japan to Switzerland.
