Exports drive up production of cars in UK
British car production accelerated in January, driven by exports, while there was also strong demand for commercial vehicles.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders yesterday showed that the number of cars produced in the UK last month reached 110,179, up 8.9 per cent year-on-year.
More than 85 per cent of those were exported, with the number sold at home down 42.8 per cent on the same month last year.
Commercial vehicle production also rose 8.9 per cent, to 9,967, with twice as many being sold in the UK than in January 2010. Engine production was up 12 per cent to 216,407.
