EU demands farm reform from US
THE European Union has said in advance of today’s first formal session of the World Trade Organisation talks in Geneva that the United States must agree to reform its farm policy in return for concessions the 25-nation EU has already tabled for the talks.
EU trade commissioner Pascal Lamy said the EU would not make any further concessions beyond the reform of its Common Agriculture Policy already proposed in advance of this week’s negotiations on a framework deal to rescue the WTO’s Doha round of talks. However, French foreign minister Michel Barnier said the European Commission needs to look again at its proposals in order to "rebalance" the WTO draft agreement.
