Energy costs lower inflation for over-75s
OVER-75s face a lower inflation level than younger age groups for the first time in nearly two years, according to the Alliance Trust Research Centre.
The headline rate of inflation rose from 1.1 per cent to 1.5 per cent last month, the Office for National Statistics revealed this week, but the rate of inflation facing those aged between 30 and 49 increased to 2 per cent because of higher transport and education costs.
Over-75s face the lowest rate of inflation, at 1.7 per cent, thanks to lower gas and electricity costs, while under-30s face an inflation rate of 1.8 per cent, due largely to continued low clothing and audio-visual goods prices.
