Wind power for Scottish Water

SCOTTISH Water has teamed up with a renewable energy company to develop an 18-turbine windfarm that could generate up to a third of the utilities’ energy requirements.

Eneco Wind UK will launch a “comprehensive” public consultation for the proposed Macritch Hill wind farm near Scottish Water’s Backwater reservoir at Kirriemuir in Angus.

Netherlands-based Eneco currently owns and operates the Tullo wind farm in Aberdeenshire, and is nearing completion of a 51MW wind farm on the Lochluichart estate near Inverness.

Chris Banks, commercial director at Scottish Water, said: “We want to become increasingly energy efficient while helping to meet Scotland’s ambitious renewable energy targets.”
