Scottish Water’s Polish deals are in the pipeline
Scottish Water’s international division will today unveil a partnership deal with Polish engineering firm ECM Group Polska to bid for contracts to manage infrastructure in the eastern European country.
The publicly-owned utility company said it was already in talks with a number of Polish water companies to offer the joint venture’s services.
Poland has about 700 water utility companies owned by local councils throughout the country. Restructuring in the early 1990s transferred responsibility and ownership of water and waste management companies from the central state to the municipalities.
The cash to fund Scottish Water’s international expansion has come from profits the company had made in its home market.
In January, Scottish Water won a contract to provide training to staff in the water industry throughout the province of Alberta, in Canada.
