United States employers added 192,000 jobs in March, the latest sign the world’s biggest economy is rebounding after severe winter weather at the start of the year.

The figure was only slightly behind February’s total while the rate of unemployment was unchanged at 6.7 per cent.

Revisions to previous data also meant employers added a combined 37,000 more jobs in January and February than previously estimated.

Marcus Bullus, trading director at MB Capital, said: “The equity markets got exactly what they wished for – healthy rather than hyperbolic job growth, and the likelihood that the [Federal Reserve] taper pace will stay put.”
