Mexico upbeat on its economy

SCOTCH whisky distillers could be poised to toast a further boost from emerging markets after upbeat comments from Mexico’s finance minister.

Luis Videgaray said that Mexico’s economy, the second largest in Latin America, is set to rebound next year, boosted by a recovery in its main trade partner, the United States, despite the looming tapering of fiscal stimulus.

His comments came just days after official figures showed that Mexico’s economy contracted during the second quarter for the first time in four years because of lower government spending, sluggish consumption and weak demand for exports.

Videgaray this the economy could grow by 4 per cent next year.
