Alliance Trust gets new face on board

SCOTTISH investment group Alliance Trust has named Katherine Garrett-Cox as its new executive director and chief investment officer.

Ms Garrett-Cox, a mother of four, known in the City as Katherine the Great, is currently chief investment officer at Morley Fund Management, one of Britain's leading asset management firms with more than 160 billion of funds under its control.

She is due to take up her new post at the 2.5 billion capitalised Dundee-based firm in May.

Alliance's chief executive, Alan Harden, said: "Katherine's strong experience in asset allocation, her far-sighted strategic approach and evident investment skills set her apart from the other candidates."

He also said that Ms Garrett-Cox's broad perspective in investment management would prove "invaluable" as Alliance plots its future strategy.

Lesley Knox, chairman at Alliance, said her experience would also provide a "major contribution" at board level.

Alliance, which was founded in 1888, has been expanding steadily over the past year, including its merger with Second Alliance Trust to create the UK's largest generalist investment trust.

Ms Garrett-Cox said she was joining a firm with a "prestigious investment history."
