ECB keeps interestrate at 1 per cent
THE European Central Bank (ECB) followed the Bank of England yesterday in keeping its benchmark interest rate on hold.
ECB rate-setters left the bank's main interest rate unchanged at 1 per cent for the ninth month running.
In a statement, the ECB's president, Jean-Claude Trichet, said that price developments remain "subdued" and that inflation expectations were "firmly anchored" around the bank's target of "close to, but below, 2 per cent".
Earlier, the Bank of England kept its main interest rate unchanged at a record low of 0.5 per cent
