Don't help BA says Branson

SIR Richard Branson has called on the Government not to step in to save struggling British Airways.

The Virgin Atlantic boss said that to help the flagging airline would not be in the public interest. Instead, he suggested, his company would be happy to take some of BA's slots at Heathrow.

He added that Virgin would not be prepared to bid for BA because of the company's pension deficit.

But BA branded Sir Richard's comments "utter fantasy". A spokseman added: "There have been no talks with the Government."
