Craig Group adds to fleet as Talisman deal is unveiled
CRAIG Group, the Aberdeen-based energy services firm, will today unveil a five-year contract from Talisman Energy that will spark a “major investment” in its shipping fleet.
The family-owned company will commission a pair of supply vessels to service Talisman’s North Sea oil rigs at a total cost of £50 million.
Buying the ships will take Craig Group’s fleet up to 37 vessels and will create 50 jobs in the process.
Callum Bruce, managing director of North Star Shipping, the Craig Group subsidiary that won the contract, said: “Our major investment in state-of-the-art vessels supports the UK offshore industry and its employees as well as showing our continuing support to British shipping.”
The two ships will be built at the Balenciaga yard in northern Spain and are due for delivery in the second and fourth quarters of 2013.
Last month Craig Group posted a 50 per cent year-on-year rise in pre-tax profits to just over £15.2m. Turnover rose to £111.9m from £92.4m over the same period following investment in vessels and a pick-up in the oil and gas markets.
