VIDEO technology start-up MeVi is gearing up to launch an app to help people capture and share memorable moments at live events such as gigs and sporting matches.

But rather than filming the action themselves, users will be able to put their smartphones down and let the Edinburgh-based firm’s technology do the hard work.

Chief executive Liza Sutherland said: “We have a patent-pending location technology that allows us to pinpoint someone in a crowd at that moment in time.

“People like to video events to prove they were there and create a memory of it, but the irony is the only memory they have is of a film. We want people to enjoy themselves and take away a memento as well.”

MeVi, based at the CodeBase technology incubator, is now aiming to raise a seven-figure sum to put the finishing touches to the system, which was tested at Edinburgh College of Art’s end-of-year party yesterday. More events are planned ahead of its launch this year.
