Edinburgh-based telecoms firm Commsworld has lifted its full-year revenue forecast after picking up a string of “significant” contract wins.

The company, founded in 1994, has also predicted that its 50-strong workforce could swell to 60 by the end of the year.

Commsworld, which counts car dealer Arnold Clark and the Edinburgh International Conference Centre among its clients, started this year with a goal of delivering £10 million in revenues, but is now on track to generate sales of about £13m.

Chief executive Ricky Nicol said: “2015 has certainly been the biggest year in our history.

“A decision taken many years ago, to go it alone and service Scottish businesses with what we believed would be a more personal and effective set-up is further justified each day that passes and with each client that joins or renews with us.”

He added: “We’re now competing at a far higher level than ever before and we know for a fact the Scottish operations of Vodafone and BT are taking notice.”

In March, Commsworld announced a partnership with listed network specialist CityFibre to create a 93-mile superfast fibre network in Edinburgh, in a move that could boost the city’s economy by more than £200 million a year.

The company has also been selected as a preferred partner for CityFibre’s “gigabit city” project in Aberdeen.

“Our partnership with CityFibre and the opportunity to deliver on the hugely exciting Edinburgh gigabit city project by propelling my own home city to the forefront of the digital revolution is a source of immense pride,” Nicol said.

“However, the most satisfying part of our success is being able to offer more people a strong career that will allow them to share in our success. We’ve risen steadily to 50 full-time staff in recent years and we expect to get that up to around 60 by the end of the year.

“With all these talented individuals on board it is a very exciting time to be part of the Commsworld team taking on the likes of Virgin and BT and that excitement shows no sign of winding down any time soon.”

Earlier this month, Aim-quoted CityFibre said almost 300 council-owned sites in Edinburgh will receive an upgrade to their broadband connection, again working with Commsworld.

The contract, extending CityFibre’s existing gigabit city project in Edinburgh, is part of a wider £186m outsourced IT procurement deal for the council won by CGI, with Commsworld’s part of the contract worth about £12m. Key sites to benefit from faster connection speeds will include community centres, libraries and 137 primary and secondary schools.
