A BORDERS-BASED business has agreed a “multi-million-pound” contract extension with BT to support the roll-out of high-speed broadband networks.
Emtelle manufactures cable duct – the plastic piping that encases underground fibre cables – as well as other products at its twin plants in Hawick and Jedburgh.
The firm is a key supplier in BT’s broadband roll-out, with some 50 million metres of duct, sub-duct and “blown fibre” tubing provided during 2014. The contract extension is for four years.
Mads Hogfeldt, chief executive of Emtelle, said: “This reinforcement of our long-term relationship with BT will help us continue to grow our business and provide quality employment for more than 800 people, including 300 in Scotland.”
