MUSIC platform provider 7digital has become the first company of its kind to adopt a new British developed hi-resolution audio format.

Meridian Audio launched its MQA – Master Quality Authenticated – technology earlier this month. It argues that its new system can reproduce the full detail of a live or studio performance while avoiding the huge file sizes and slow downloading associated with hi-definition audio.

7digital said yesterday that its “global strategic partnership” with Meridian would make it the first platform provider to offer MQA for both downloads and streaming.

Chief executive Simon Cole added: “I truly believe MQA will become the standard for high quality streaming in the years to come.”
