Department store chain John Lewis today said its Glasgow branch was the only one north of the Border to grow its sales last week.
The employee-owned retailer said takings at the store during the week to 17 October were 1 per cent higher than the same period last year.
In comparison, sales in Edinburgh were down 8.1 per cent while its Aberdeen store suffered a 17.3 per cent decline.
Overall, sales at John Lewis grew 4.4 per cent on a year ago during the week, with the cooler weather driving demand for clothing, while online takings were up 13.1 per cent.
Total sales at Waitrose, also owned by the John Lewis Partnership, edged up 1.1 per cent.
