The extended winter and a shortage of forage yesterday prompted NFU Scotland to offer themselves as a link between farmers with animal feed to spare and those short of fodder.
Chief executive Scott Walker urged farmers looking for fodder or with stocks to spare to use the fodder helpline number (0131 472 4059) or to make contact with their regional manager or their group secretary.
“That will allow us to establish what demand for fodder is out there. We will look to build up a picture of where stocks are available and where they are needed and if possible facilitate fodder deliveries,” he said.
“Worries about fodder supplies will be most acute in parts swamped by last week’s snow storms but the long, cold spring has affected the whole of Scotland.”
