Work is to start on one of the largest office developments in Aberdeen after Wood Group’s core PSN division yesterday signed a long-term lease for the complex.
The new-build CityPark office building will be located on Hareness Road, and will be completed and ready for the firm to move in by the end of next year.
The deal cements Aberdeen as the headquarters of the global business and points to an ongoing focus on maturing operations in the North Sea.
At 215,000sq ft, the office will be one of the largest in Scotland, and is designed to house 1,900 employees.
It has been designed internally according to Wood Group’s global design standards and will be built by HFD Property Group.
The buildings are expected to be given an “A-rated” energy efficiency status. PSN, Wood Group’s engineering and project management arm, said the move will allow it to consolidate a number of its properties in the south side of the city and accommodate its employees in a “highly sustainable, fit-for-purpose office building”.
Dave Stewart, PSN UK’s managing director, said: “This confirms Wood Group’s strong continuing commitment to support North Sea oil and gas activities as well as confirming Aberdeen as its global headquarters.
“As the North Sea sector moves into a more mature phase, the new office will allow us to be more cost-effective and efficient, giving significant benefits to both our customers and our employees.”
Wood Group PSN provides services such as hook up and commissioning, operations, maintenance and engineering to the energy industry. With 29,000 workers in more than 40 countries worldwide, it also offers construction, project management, training and decommissioning services.
