A Dundee lift specialist was today set to begin work on a seven-figure contract for four massive tower blocks in its home city.

Caltech Lifts – founded in Dundee in 1978 by engineer Howard Renwick and now run by his sons Andrew and Fraser – has been awarded a deal to replace a total of eight passenger lifts in the council-owned blocks with state-of-the-art anti-vandal models.

The £1.35 million project is expected to take around seven months to complete.

Dundee City Council is one of several public sector clients for the company, which has been carrying out installation and maintenance work for it for 15 years.

Andrew Renwick said: “This contract is a significant win. Our pipeline for installation work over the coming two years is extremely positive.

“As a direct result of this project we’ve taken on two lift engineers and are now recruiting two more. We may also have to hire more office support staff.”
