Commonwealth Games village tender
GLASGOW City Council has put the £200 million masterplan for the 2014 Commonwealth Games athletes village out to tender.
A plan for the whole of the Dalmarnock village has already been developed by architects RMJM, used for the initial pitch the city made for the games in 2007.
Under European procurement rules, architects RMJM will have to bid again to win the work. The village will provide temporary accommodation for 6,500 athletes.
The bidder will develop both the masterplan and oversee the construction and reuse of the village in Dalmarnock.
A spokeswoman for RMJM said: "We have worked with the council for a long time on it. We think we have got a good chance."
A short list will be drawn up in September with the preferred developer unveiled next spring.
The council will offer the 38.5 hectare site free to developers initially but will negotiate a profit sharing deal. The deadline for expressions of interest in the project is 11 August.
