A SERIES of blockbuster films, including Mamma Mia and The Dark Knight, have helped Cineworld to increase revenues.

The company, which has a cinema at Fountain Park, said box office revenues rose by 3.9 per cent in the 43 weeks to October 23.

Other notable hits, including Wall-E and Hancock, helped overall revenues increase by 2.2 per cent. The firm's market share is now 23.3 per cent.

Steve Wiener, chief executive of Cineworld, said: "The trading results achieved to date demonstrate the resilient nature of our business, particularly in the current economic climate."

He added that the group is "well placed" to benefit from a strong final quarter, with the film line-up including James Bond: Quantum of Solace, High School Musical 3, Madagascar 2 and The Day the Earth Stood Still.
