Castle cashes in on need to make IT pay

SOFTWARE and IT services firm Castle Computer Services has heralded "the best year in its history" as record fourth-quarter sales boosted full-year turnover to £5.7 million – up £500,000 from 2007.

The final three months of 2008 generated sales of 1.6m, the Edinburgh-based firm said, adding that the increase had come from companies seeking to increase IT efficiency amid the economic downturn.

Castle Computers was founded 26 years ago and boasts a 500-strong client list.

Managing director Alan Quinn said: "2008 was the best year in the company's history. We achieved ambitious growth targets in an extremely challenging and competitive market.

"Because of the economic downturn, we are finding many organisations are keen to cut costs. This has resulted in them prioritising the restructure of their IT infrastructure to maximise their return on investment."

He added: "There can't be many businesses that achieved a record growth in the last quarter of 2008 and we are seeing the trend continue with a strong start to 2009.

"Our growth and success is a testament to the expertise and creativity of our staff and their ability to meet the needs of customers."
