Carillion lands deal No 2 for airports

CARILLION IT Services has signed its second big deal in a week after securing a contract to maintain network infrastructure and cabling at BAA's four English airports.

The company, which is soon to move into new premises at Hamilton technology park, already services the three Scottish airports in the group – Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow – and says the deal is now the biggest of its kind that the company has won in 15 years.

The new "framework agreement" means the company will provide services as required over four years to Gatwick, Heathrow, Southampton and Stansted. All seven airports serve 150 million passengers a year.

Earlier this week, Carillion IT Services, part of the Carillion group, won an outsourcing deal with BAE Systems' submarine building division worth "tens of millions" of pounds over the next five years.

In February, Carillion acquired Alfred McAlpine IT Services which in 2001 bought the Scotland-based Steil Group. It has been working with BAA for more than 10 years, providing infrastructure and cabling services to the Scottish airports.

Noel McNulty, managing director of Carillion IT Services, said the latest deals had been a boost during difficult economic circumstances but the rise of the dollar would be a cause for concern as equipment was sourced from the US.
