Cameron 'in talks' over Greenhill role

JOHNNY Cameron, who was credited with leading the spectacular growth of Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS) corporate lending arm, is reportedly in detailed talks about joining Greenhill, the investment bank, in a senior role.

Cameron – who was chairman of global markets at RBS and a close ally of former chief executive Sir Fred Goodwin – is reportedly considering the post of senior adviser at Greenhill.

In 2006, Cameron, 54, received a total remuneration package of almost 3.5 million from RBS, then took home 3.2m in 2007, consisting of a base salary of 988,000, a bonus of 1.9m, pension payments totalling 341,000 and other benefits valued at about 27,000.

Reports of Cameron's job talks came as Lloyds Banking Group (LBG) – the behemoth created through the takeover of HBOS by Lloyds TSB – was tipped to appoint two non- executive directors.

Tim Ryan, who was director of the United States' office of thrift supervision, and Tom Watson, who was head of Hermes Pensions Management up until 2006, have been linked with the posts.

The appointments would be the first made since the UK government recapitalised the banks that make up LBG, in which taxpayers hold a 43 per cent stake.
