Cairn wins right to drill off Greenland
Oil company Cairn Energy has won permission to drill up to seven oil exploration wells off Greenland's west coast.
Joern Skov Nielsen, director of Greenland's Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum, said the Edinburgh-based company would conduct deepwater drilling off Disko island and the capital Nuuk.
Cairn already has licences to drill elsewhere off the coast of Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory.
In September, it discovered natural gas in the region but failed to find crude oil.
