Budget business measures at a glance: Mortgage guarantees
THE government aims to guarantee mortgage-backed securities to revitalise the moribund mortgage market.
The plan is based on the main recommendation of a report published yesterday into the mortgage market authored by former head of HBOS, Sir James Crosby. He says mortgage lenders should be invited to bid for about 100 billion of government guarantees over the next two years.
