BrewDog's Equity for Punks promises anarchy in the UK markets
Brewdog, the fledgling Scots brewing business looking to shake up the "olde" world of ale, has raised almost a quarter of its £2.1 million-plus fundraising target in just two days.
The Fraserburgh-based firm, which produces a range of hand-crafted beers including some controversial ultra-strong varieties, launched the second-round so-called "Equity for Punks" scheme earlier this week. Some 90,000 shares are being offered via the company's website to customers and potential investors, who are able to acquire them in 95 packages.
The brewer, founded by young entrepreneurs Martin Dickie and James Watt, yesterday said it had already attracted some 500,000 in investments. It is looking to use the funds to expand production and open a bigger brewery.
The firm, which is also opening a string of bars, took five months to raise some 750,000 when it launched its first investment project in 2009. Watt said: "We are completely overwhelmed with the results so far, we thought it was a mistake when told more than 500,000 worth of shares had been bought in just two days.
"The support of the people has been the driving force behind BrewDog since day one."
