Barfly: Train fare tweet is hard to beat

A TWITTER moan from one wealth manager, Iain Wishart, about the price of train fares from Edinburgh to Aberdeen turned into a case of oneupmanship.

He tweeted: "Edinburgh to Aberdeen return on the train (off-peak) - for 2 people. Cost? 183.20! I will be taking the car now..."

But David Ferguson, chief of Nucleus - with many wealth managers as clients - showed how he might be more money savvy, tweeting back: "I did that yesterday for 91!"

Brewdog fan backs the brand - literally

HOW do you make customers become devoted to your brand? Get them branded is the short answer.

Brewdog, the controversial Fraserburgh brewer of some very strong ales, was pleased to announce that one of its most dedicated customers had gone the extra mile when it comes to promoting his favourite brand - he's had the company's logo tattooed on his arm.

The pictures on Brewdog's Twitterfeed show that the tattoo is real.

And permanent.

Strictly for charity

BIDDING has begun for a series of tasty prizes in this year's Pilotlight fundraising auction. VIP tickets to The X Factor final and a chance to meet Alesha Dixon, right, at the semi-final of Strictly Come Dancing are among the goodies up for grabs.

Funds raised will go to Pilotlight, a mentoring charity that helps small, local charities to grow with the help of some of the biggest names in business.

Based in Edinburgh, London and Cardiff, Pilotlight matches charities with teams of senior business people, who mentor the charities through the process of planning for growth and financial sustainability. Figures suggest charities can increase turnover by 48 per cent after two years of working with the group.

"Pilotlight makes a difference to the lives of thousands of disadvantaged people in many different communities," says Chris Horne of Pilotlight Scotland. Lots can be viewed at www.pilotlight.org.uk/auction. Bidding ends on 30 November.
