Barclay's McGregor moves to Clydesdale
CLYDESDALE Bank has poached Barclay's long-standing head of corporate and commercial banking in Scotland, Alison McGregor.
McGregor, who has worked for Barclays for 28 years, joins Clydesdale in a few months as head of corporate business development for Scotland.
She will join the top three of the bank's 30-strong business operations. She will work alongside Graham Cunning, who was promoted to head of corporate and structured finance last June following the retirement of Jack Ogston, and Scott McKerracher, regional director for Scotland.
Clydesdale, part of National Australia Group, said McGregor's role will be to drive new business in Scotland across both corporate and structured finance .
Cunning said: "The appointment of Alison McGregor signifies a serious intent on behalf of Clydesdale Bank to develop and grow in the Scottish corporate market.
"We already have a number of key corporate banking relationships, and we have added to these in 2009, but we believe that Alison's appointment will help us grow in the corporate market quicker and more effectively."
McGregor, who has spent most of her career at Barclays, started as a cashier. "It's a wrench, having been with the business for 28 years, but I am really looking forward to the new challenge," she said.
Following the appointment of former Royal Bank of Scotland big hitter Derek Weir in 2007, McGregor became one of Barclay's four top bankers in charge of large business clients in Scotland.
Although Barclays is in the top three for corporate banking in England is has continued to retain a very low share of the Scottish corporate bank market. McGregor won business from Chivas Brothers and Kwik Fit.
