Union wants probe into security risks of offshoring
AMICUS, one of Britain's leading trade unions, today called for a Parliamentary inquiry into what it said were "increasing problems" linked to the offshoring of financial services administration from the UK to India.
The union said it had serious concerns about the security of work being sent overseas by UK firms, which has also seen thousands of British jobs lost.
Among the companies that have relocated work to lower cost bases, such as India, are Royal & SunAlliance, Scottish Widows, Abbey and Aviva.
Amicus called for a Select Committee inquiry to check on the use of personal data overseas, adding that it had written to politicians asking them to support its call for a probe.
National officer David Fleming said: "There is growing evidence that offshoring does not benefit employees, consumers or shareholders."
