Aviva calls halt to shifting more British jobs offshore
AVIVA, the insurance giant which owns the Norwich Union brand, has decided against shifting any more work off-shore for the time being after creating 8000 jobs in India over the past 24 months.
The firm has told 800 employees at its call centre near Glasgow that they would next year be moved to new nearby premises.
Norwich Union Insurance chief executive Patrick Snowball said that because the lease on the current building was due to expire in September 2006, the group had reviewed its options, including a possible off-shoring move.
However, he added: "We feel there is now a natural balance. We have created 8000 jobs in India - more offshore jobs that any other UK insurer. But after our acquisition of the RAC we now have 41,000 employees in the UK."
The insurance group currently employs some 3600 people in Scotland.
