Abbey banks 40 per cent hike in profits
ABBEY, the British banking group, saw its second-quarter net profit climb by 40 per cent to £491 million, its Spanish owner Banco Santander revealed.
Santander, Spain's biggest bank, issued the figure as it published its own second-quarter numbers which showed a 26 per cent jump in net profit to 2.2 billion, which it put down to strong growth at both Abbey and its operations in Latin America.
