BAE arm contributes £392m to economy
A STUDY by Fraser of Allander Institute has shown that the contribution of BAE Systems' Surface Fleet Solutions business to the Scottish economy increased by £139 million to £392m in 2007 compared with the year before.
The study, commissioned by BAE Systems, also revealed that for every 100 people employed by the company on the Clyde, a further 68 jobs were supported in other industries in Scotland.
BAE claimed that this brought the total number of jobs in Scotland supported by the Clyde yards to 5,364 – 132.2m worth of wages across the country.
According to the study, the Govan and Scotstoun operations contributed 107m million to Scotland's gross value added (GVA).
