Average house price north of Border climbs nearly £5,000
THE cost of the average house in Scotland climbed by more than £4,700 in April, new government figures show.
The UK Communities and Local Government (CLG) department yesterday said the April rebound narrowed the year-on-year decline in Scottish house prices to 8.6 per cent, compared with a fall of 9.8 per cent in the year to March.
The average UK house price fell by 13 per cent in the 12 months to April, with a 1.1 per cent rise between March and April arresting the year-on-year slide.
First-time buyers across the UK paid an average 135,416 in April, down from 162,061 in the same month in 2008 and 32,132 less than at the market peak in mid 2007.
The rise in prices between March and April was driven by demand for terraced houses (up 2 per cent) and semi-detached houses, according to CLG.
