ABP's vow to producers: we will pay on day carcase is weighed

MANAGING the cash flow is important in farming, especially with credit terms of suppliers tighter than for many years.

However, Anglo Beef Processors (ABP), a company that always prided itself in paying farmers quickly for their cattle, has issued a pledge guaranteeing payment on the day carcases are weighed at its various plants throughout the UK, including the large facility in Perth.

The development comes as a result of a recent investment in upgrading the IT system.

A spokesperson for ABP said: "Our policy has always been one of rapid payment, but this upgrade will ensure that producers receive their cheques even quicker.

"We can also provide further benefits to producers through improved communication channels for the performance data of their cattle. All producers are currently able to receive an e-mail on the day that their cattle are processed, detailing weights and grades.

"This enables producers to access a live archive of data relating to cattle supplied over the past five years. This will allow producers to compare different batches of cattle and compare trends over a longer period at no cost."

For the first time in several years ABP returns to the Royal Highland Show this week, giving all Scottish producers the opportunity to speak to the firm's staff and to meet Frank Ross, who was recently appointed as general manager of the ABP plant in Perth.
