AMAZING what alcohol can drive people to do. Like asking the government for a five-year freeze on beer excise duties.
You've got to admire JD Wetherspoon founder-chairman and chief shareholder Tim Martin's chutzpah (Treasury: no, brass neck).

Martin makes a decent case for it. The smoking ban has been a shot to the body for the pubs industry.
