90,000 guinea heifer breaks sales record
A RECORD price for a dairy cow was set this week with 90,000 guineas – £94,500 – being paid for an 18-month-old Holstein heifer, Willsbro Emilyann.
There had been a great deal of pre-sale speculation over Emilyann, sold by the Wills family from their herd at Wadebridge, Cornwall, as she had the top genetics in Europe. The buyers of the record breaker were the Ponderosa Holstein herd, in Spain.
The top price for a cattle beast paid through an auction ring in the UK was a 100,000 guinea bid for a Limousin bull.
