ELIZABETH Pisani, author of The Wisdom of Whores, surprised photographers at the Edinburgh International Book Festival when she offered them a choice of chocolate or durian flavoured condoms.
The more widely travelled of the snappers remarked that as durian (a popular fruit in Indonesia) has an extremely unpleasant aroma of rotting flesh, there probably wasn't much of a market. Pisani retorted that, although they were originally manufactured as a gimmick, they had become so popular in Indonesia that three companies were now producing them.
